Attention! Read all about it!
Flyers are a special feat, it is reminiscent of informational Tetris. The problem is how to grab the audience’s attention then purposefully direct it to the various areas in the poster. As well as, to fit the required information on the page while looking aesthetically pleasing. The solution is taking complexity and artfully molding it into simplicity. I enjoy puzzles, so I rather enjoy the challenge.
Block Party: This flyer had a LOT of information to include and organize for the client’s event. That was the biggest challenge, however I wanted to present it in a fun and captivating way to attract the youthful target audience. The event targeted underserved youth in the community to equip and encourage them for the upcoming school year through the love of Christ.
Revive the Fire: This poster was for a yearly event meant to encourage and rekindle our faith. I chose to use warm colors to convey the concept of fire. It had plenty of negative space so the feel was fresh and airy. I added some vector texture to add interest and movement.
This Week at FCFC: I volunteer on the design team at Faith Christian Family Church, this is an example of one of the more information-heavy posts I designed to help keep our church informed on the weekend events and times. I thought it would be a fun inclusion to demonstrate a more laid back, fun design created for Instagram stories, not for print.
Invitations
Invitations are fun to design because it feels like I get to take part in the celebration!
Here are a few examples of my work:
The first was designed for a client’s niece who was celebrating her Quinceañera. The theme was "by the sea" with a hint of art deco and the color was turquoise. The challenge was in making the fine lines characteristic of this design visible and balanced in print, without being able to do a test print so communication with the client had to be clear and concise. I utilized another designer’s illustrations in this design so I could focus on the overall design and the typography.
The second two were for my son’s birthday parties in recent years, it’s really efficient getting to be my own client! The designs were fun and straightforward, the main challenges was organizing the information in such a way that the fonts were large enough to be legible while also having enough negative space incorporated to allow for “breathing room” within the design.
The third was for a his and hers wedding shower with custom vector illustration. The theme really made this invitation unique and fun. The challenge was that the bride needed plenty of text in the design for her audience to know when and where, where to register, and so forth. Also, because it was a his and hers shower I didn’t want it to be too feminine so I chose to focus on elements in a classy high tea, chose lace instead of florals, and used blue tones.
